I have been working as an artist for over 25 years, specializing in acrylic painting and mixed media. My work has been seen and featured in the U.S. and Europe and I have won awards for my work.

My work is influenced most by the reknown artists of the 20th century: Picasso, the New York School and late-century graphic artists such as Roger Dean and Peter Max. My goal is to create pieces that are fun to look at and stimulate the brain.
Sometimes using visual cues from life, or just having a place or experience in my mind as the painting emerges, I use what is happening on the canvas to respond, and guide it someplace that feels somehow familiar, where it can speak for itself.

Studying art history was pivotal. I absorbed it, the imagery fusing with my own ideas about art and meaning. Picasso was a model for prolific creativity, while remaining truly original. Klimt, Beckett, Stella, Guston, Motherwell are some of my favorites. The New York school of the 1950's: non-representational expression using materials themselves as subject; action painting through physical gesture; methodical exploration of color fields, and the highlighted importance of edges all played a role in shaping my approach. Later, Roger Dean and Peter Max added graphic design to my vocabulary of visual interests.
The influence of these giants is never intentional. For me it's a treat when it appears, it's magic. That's what I find fascinating about today's artists, we have all been exposed to such historical diversity...it's been unavoidable. Yet how we are subconsciously influenced is not a matter of decision nor is it possible to measure. When I paint I am interacting with the surface, which seems to unfold in the moment. Basing decisions in the pursuit of interest or beauty. I figure if something that happens on the canvas gets me thinking, it may get you thinking as well--my wish for you. Thank you for visiting and please enjoy!
I enjoy meeting artists and enthusiasts, so feel free to call and set up a visit!
